Cultivating a Lively Garden in Times of Drought

April 30, 2015 @ 7:30 am - 9:00 am PDT

Free – $20.00

There is a whole universe of microbial organisms under your feet. The life in the soil forms complex and fascinating relationships with the roots of plants. These relationship are essential for a healthy ecosystem.

In our gardens we can either support or hinder these beneficial relationships through our gardening practices. Learn how to increase and nurture the aerobic organisms that make fertile soil; and make a water-wise garden. When you have a healthy soil food web, the plants in your garden will be much healthier, more disease and pest resistant, will require less water, and the food you grow will be more nutritious for you and your family. Through a few simple practices you can support and grow the life in your soil and do a tremendous service to the ecology in your own garden and beyond.

Terry Lyngso grew up in the oak woodlands of Belmont and learned about our native plant community at a young age. She joined the family business, Lyngso Garden in the early 70’s and is both CEO and CFO. Terry has studied and composted both at a commercial level and at the home garden level. She is a Master Gardener and Master Composter. Through her studies, work and garden, she says she’s “come to respect and deeply appreciate the microbes that have made life on earth possible.”
