June 24, 2021 @ 7:20 am - 9:00 am PDT

Free

African-American journalist Ida B. Wells was the first to call attention to the epidemic of lynching with her pamphlet, Southern Horrors, published in 1892. Terry Baum tells the story of the life of this courageous activist, a founding member of the NAACP, through historic photos and illustrations.

Terry Baum has been creating theater in San Francisco since 1974, when she founded Lilith Feminist Theater. An anthology of her plays, One Dyke’s Theater, was published by Exit Press in 2019. Since becoming obsessed with Ida B. Wells, she has presented this lecture at Drexel University in Philadelphia, the Rossmoor African-American Club in Walnut Creek, and the Ida B. Wells High School in San Francisco.
