Using Humor to Overcome Fear of Failure

July 22, 2004 @ 7:30 am - 9:00 am PDT

Humor is power in life and in business, and Kathy’s goal is to empower people and organizations through humor skills. Her company, The Humor Group, provides coaching and consulting services to both individuals and organizations. Kathy shows individuals how to use their own humor voice in everyday communications, in presentations, and in dealing with corporate culture and change. Work should be fun and humor is about positive choices. It is also about leadership. You already have the power of your own humor; Kathy shows you how to use it for optimal effect. The best humor is when you are being yourself, being authentic. Her approach is fun, humorous, and customized to your needs. Additionally, The Humor Group offers sketch comedy, cartoons and humor copy services for corporate needs.

Kathy is a published author, cartoonist and speaker on humor (Silicon Valley Biz Ink, The Business Journal, The East Bay Business Times). Her business has been featured in The San Jose Mercury News. Her client list includes Cisco, IBM, PowerGenix Systems, Stanford University, University of California at Berkeley, Team San Jose (San Jose Convention and Visitors Bureau), DeAnza-Foothill Colleges, to name just a few organizations.

Kathy has a background in improvisational comedy, sketch comedy, and stand-up comedy. She has performed stand-up locally (Rooster T. Feather’s) and across California (and a few other places). She currently has a sketch comedy show with her comedy colleagues on San Jose Comcast channel 15 on Wednesday nights called, “MoronLife (More on Life),” where she is a writer, actor and producer.

Kathy spent 13 years managing people and products for high-tech companies to fund her “extracurricular comic pursuits.” She has a Master’s in Computer Arts and Sciences and an MBA in marketing strategy from the University of California at Berkeley. She is on the board of the local Silicon Valley American Marketing Association (SVAMA) and a member of the National Speakers Association (NSA).

When she’s not working with clients, writing, or speaking, she prefers spending time with her wonderful husband, an engineer and artist. She loves traveling and outdoor sports.
