Junko Matsubara, CEO of J-women.com Inc.

July 27, 2000 @ 7:30 am - 9:00 am PDT

J-women.com is a web portal targeted at the growing number of women Internet users in Japan. The company is unique, since it started as a spin-off of Mitsubishi Corp., a major Japanese trading firm, where Junko was the Manager of Business Development at its Palo Alto Office. Although targeting the Japanese market, J-women.com is headquartered in Silicon Valley, and has received funding from the prominent venture capital firm Sevin Rosen Funds. Junko spoke about the difference between U.S. and Japanese women in regards to the use of the Internet, as well as her experience in working with both a very traditional Japanese corporation and a new-economy style U.S. venture capital firm as shareholders. Before joining Mitsubishi, Junko was an analyst at Dataquest covering the semiconductor industry. During her career there, her office was a MUST STOP for Japanese semiconductor executives when they were in the Bay Area.
